Amazing Time at the Bowers Festival

(9/5) – Bowers was awesome this year. Surrounded by new and old friends, including Hot Lips Peppers, Cactus Pete’s, Jahleda,  3 1/2 Peppers, and, of course, Puckerbutt Pepper Co., we had a blast trying a million tasty bites, including jellies, rubs, pumpkin funnel cake (you have to try it!), jerky, and sauces. As a special treat, Smokin’ Ed treated Rapid Fire and I, Girl on Fire, to three fresh peppers even hotter than the Carolina Reaper…and the peppers did not disappoint.  One ugly-bumpkin pepper, dubbed the Turd, was so tasty and sweet, you forget the hell that’s coming as you eat it.  Ed got it all on tape.  So good!

We’re waiting for the Kempton Pepper Jam next — Rob, we know you’ll do a killer event!

Shout out to some of our new and old friends, including Fred, Lorraine, Eddie, Melyssa, Greg, Brian, Ushanee, Ed, Brett, Rob, and Johnny, a/k/a Chef Johnny, a fun sweet guy, and a serious competitor who kicked some amazing ass on Alton Brown’s Cut Throat Kitchen!

A beautiful Bethlehem afternoon yesterday, the Fire Eaters, plus our Kid in Training, headed out for the Bethlehem Blueberry Festival, featuring once again, its Pie Eating Contest.  We once again marched into battle and scored for the Fire Eaters!

Tonight — Checking Out “Smoke in the Valley”

We’ll be checking out Smoke in the Valley Craft Beer and Chili Festival tonight — including their wing challenge — as much as you can eat in two minutes!  Here’s the deal from http://glfcbbq.com/:

The Green Lane Volunteer Fire Company is once again holding the Smoke in the Valley BBQ Cook-off Competition. Smoke in the Valley will take place on May 9th and 10th of 2014 and is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. Over 50 teams from the U.S. and Canada will compete in this years event for various prize monies, judging will be Saturday afternoon.

There will be live music Friday night and Saturday. There will also be food vendors along with a wide variety of Crafters/Artisans and games for the kids. Open to the public no admission fee, come on out and enjoy!

This year’s event will feature:

• A People’s Choice category, sponsored by Hatfield Quality Meats where you get to taste competition BBQ and decide who has the best.
• Our 2nd annual Wing Eating Contest
• Our 3rd annual Smoke in the Valley Car Show.
