Amazing Time at the Bowers Festival

(9/5) – Bowers was awesome this year. Surrounded by new and old friends, including Hot Lips Peppers, Cactus Pete’s, Jahleda,  3 1/2 Peppers, and, of course, Puckerbutt Pepper Co., we had a blast trying a million tasty bites, including jellies, rubs, pumpkin funnel cake (you have to try it!), jerky, and sauces. As a special treat, Smokin’ Ed treated Rapid Fire and I, Girl on Fire, to three fresh peppers even hotter than the Carolina Reaper…and the peppers did not disappoint.  One ugly-bumpkin pepper, dubbed the Turd, was so tasty and sweet, you forget the hell that’s coming as you eat it.  Ed got it all on tape.  So good!

Found Some SMOKIN’ Wings in Gettysburg

If you get to visit Gettysburg, stop by the Blue & Gray Bar and Grill! Their Ghost Wings are truly worthy of their disclaimer….hot stuff!!! Don’t do it only for the wings, though: their burgers are solidly good and a lot of fun. Toppings include hotdogs, peanut butter, corn fritters, maple syrup, and pretzel buns.

Kempton Pepper Jam – Fire Duo SUCCESS!!

The Fire Duo made their way to the Kempton Pepper Jam this gorgeous spring weekend.  The festival had over 40 vendors, including some of our favorites; Hot Lips (the best selection of rubs!!), Defcon (excellent sauces), and Cactus Pete’s (yummy beef jerky…).  In addition to our enjoyment of the multitude of vendors, the festival had “The Last Man Standing” pepper eating contest.  ‘Rapid Fire’ Russ and Deirdre ‘Girl on Fire’ were among a group of 10.  The event consisted of two rounds of Jalapeno Peppers, followed by Serrano, Thai Bird Chili, Habanero, then Scotch Bonnet and a few rounds of dried ghost.  After exhausting the Ghost, the results were a three way tie for 1st – Rapid Fire Russ, Carl and Chris; Deirdre ‘Girl on Fire’ was 1st place women and 3rd overall.  We’d like to thank the event organizer Dave for hosting such a spectacular festival and unique competition (hard to believe this was his first year of doing this).  Congratulations to all !!!

Triple Atomic Wing Challenge Bested

In order to warm things up for the NYC Expo, Deirdre and Russ headed out to Quaker Steak and Lube for a quick Triple Atomic Challenge, their fifth to date.  The duo destroyed the challenge and then sat down to enjoy some other fare from the Bloomsburg PA-based restaurant.
